July 2 Star Class regatta at Nantucket

Tonight’s regatta was sailed in a predominately 19 kt wind from just West of South with moderated gusts. The sailing conditions varied with some slow crossings and a couple of other issues but everyone finished with the exception of Juicy having one crash. There were hardly any tourists about and that helped.

In the first race Amy had a great start but chose a longer path to the first mark and was beat to the mark by Viv and Moon. The three of them stayed close but Viv easily maintained her lead with Moon following and then Amy. Juicy and Sea were quite a ways back bringing up the rear.

For the second race Viv took a port start and once clear established a lead and never looked back.

The third was much like the first, Viv took a good early lead with Amy following, Sea farther back and then Liev and Juicy. Liev and Juicy had the only battle of the race with Juicy prevailing. Unfortunately after rounding the buoy in Swash Viv took the wrong buoy next and so is DSQ. But congratulations to her for her two wins, and her lead was such that if she had not made the mistake she would have won the third race.

that 903 course… always forgot the last buoy… usually, Moon is close by so I can remember and adjust quickly… not today lol.
Thanks for hosting the races, Justin. Great time, despite the so-so conditions on the Blake Sea.

when I saw you going towards the scratched blue buoy, I was sure you were going the wrong way.

I hope that one day I will find the right path, because I don’t like to go and turn in those lands full of lag that always end up ruining my boat, when I turned to not go too far to the southeast. I wasting a lot of time retaking the 9.7 knots which I was enjoying before the turn. she was sure she would get on par with Viv and moon on the first buoy turn. but they escaped a little too much to be able to do shadowing.

Thanks for hosting Justin.

I love the star class races !
